Multi Stakeholder Consultation for a Bonded Labour Free Telangana State

As part of Telangana Labour Department’s commitment to lead efforts to address Bonded Labour in the State, the Labour Department of Government of Telangana, in collaboration with Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) and International Justice Mission (IJM), organized a Multi Stakeholder Consultation for a Bonded Labour Free Telangana State on the 9th of July 2019 in Hyderabad, Telangana. The participants comprised of officials from the Labour Department, Police Department, Revenue department, District Collectors, NHRC and other officials.
The Labour Department of Telangana State has also prepared a draft “Telangana State Action Plan for Elimination of Bonded Labour” with objectives, strategies and activities to be implemented at the various levels with convergence of stake holders and line departments. This draft has been sent to all relevant departments and officials for inputs and further strengthening.
At the consultation Shri. Ahmed Nadeem said that we should not brush things under carpet, and we must first and foremost accept that bonded labour exists in some form or the other. He said, “We should not think that bonded labour is not in my Mandal, District or area. If we accept this, only then can we help people. Since the eventual aim is to help people.”
