RDO leads two rescues in one day
25 May 2018: The Chengelpet RDO Mr. Muthuvadivel who took charge just today, initiated two Bonded Labour rescues on his first day of work.
The first rescue was at Thimavaram Chengalpet Revenue Division in Kanchipuram district, on a case referral by the Released Bonded Labourers’ Association members. A total of 12 labourers – 5 men, 5 women and 2 children from 3 families were rescued after 5 years of bondage.
The next rescue took place at Elumichampet village in Chengalpet, led by the same team of Chengalpet RDO and Tahsildar. Two men and two women were rescued after 2 years of bondage. Their advance amount was only Rs. 3000/- and they were being paid less than the minimum wages expected.
On the receipt of information, the RDO sent two of his Tahsildars to each of the facilities and rescued totally 16 people from bondage.
