Human Resources Generalist

The Mission: 
The vision of International Justice Mission (“IJM”) is to protect poor people from violent forces of injustice by working collaboratively with the government to secure their rescue and restoration.
The Need: 
International Justice Mission (IJM) is seeking a Human Resources Generalist who works closely with the Director of HR & Admin to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the office. This position will provide support for HR processes such as documentation, performance evaluation, and recruitment. This position is based in Mumbai and reports to the Director of HR & Admin.
Job Location: 


  • Manage hiring process, including recruiting, interviewing, reference checking, documentation and on-boarding
  • Report recruitment updates to team leaders on a bi-monthly basis

Onboarding and training

  • Conduct new hire orientation and training
  • Write, revise and train employees on employment policies
  • Organize group as well as individual training for staff on a quarterly basis, based on the required needs at the time

HR Systems

  • Manage employee benefits, including insurance, leave and staff care
  • Create systems to enhance employee satisfaction and incorporate HR best practices
  • Suggest implementation of automated systems for HR functions
  • Create and maintain employee files in a database that can be used for analysis
  • Draft and implement process and policies in alignment with the organisation needs
  • Keep up to date on legal regulations and changes in employment law
  • Manage the employee benefits program for the office
  • Synthesise employee data, feedback, and trends and provide this information to the HR Director on an ongoing basis
  • Oversee and/or support HR Director on employee relations issues
  • Guide supervisors through requirements for performance management


  • Maintain staff data and ensure confidentiality of information
  • Organize and keep track of staff leave records
  • Ensure that all staff accurately fill out monthly time-sheets
  • Maintain calendar of special events, including holidays, staff birthdays and anniversary dates


  • Participate in prosecutions and serve as a complainant or witness when needed
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
  • Carry out an additional portfolio of assignments given by the Director of HR and Administration
Required Skills and Experience: 


  • Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Human Resources or Business Administration preferred or appropriate experience


  • Minimum of 2 years’ of relevant experience


  • Fluency in oral and written communication in English & Hindi
  • Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
  • Expertise in MS word and Excel
  • Self-motivated, articulate and able to manage multiple tasks
